Menorca is the northernmost and second largest Balearic island, with an area of 700 square kilometers. From the island Cape La Mola to the headland Bajoli it is about 50 km long and has a width of 17 km. Two regions characterize Menorca: the mountains in the north (Tramuntana) and the hills in the south (Migjorn). The northern part is mountainous, rural and the landscape is characterized by a rugged, craggy coastline with natural harbors and reddish-colored sand beaches. In the south the coastline is softer - there are some deep gorges, pine forests and a rocky coasts, interrupted by long sandy, golden beaches. Monte Toro in the center of the island is 357 m in height. If you climb the winding road you can reach the summit and enjoy a magnificent view. The island's capital Maó is located on a huge natural bay. This fjord-like bay is about 5,5 km long and up to 1,2 km wide. It is the largest natural harbor in the Mediterranean and the second largest in the world. Every day a ferry sails to Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona and Valencia. Maó has a lot of attractions such as the Castle Sant Felip at the harbor entrance, the fortress of La Mola and the old town with picturesque winding streets. The 285 km long coast line is very diverse and offers a variety of sailing experiences. There are cliffs, secluded coves, marshes, dunes, natural harbors, lagoons and wide beaches. Menorca was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1993 and today almost half of the island's land area is protected. There are many natural parks in Addaia, Es Grau, Son Bou and Son Saura. In the south there is also an impressive cave system with underwater caves. Yachtcharter Menorca

On the island there are two safe harbors: Maó in the east and Ciutadella in the west. In addition, there are many bays along the coast where it is possible to anchor. On the east coast there is the protected cove of Cala D'Addaya, a deep incision bordered by pine trees and rugged limestone cliffs. Another safe bay is Cala Fornells: in bad weather the only refuge from the entire north side of the island. Menorca is an ideal sailing area for beginners and less experienced yacht charter crews. Apart from the maneuvers in the sometimes crowded and confined spaces, there are no real navigational challenges. There are few shallows and the flow is weak, but you should pay attention to the tide. The sailing area is buoyed and fired. From Menorca you can also sail to the other Balearic Islands or around the Spanish mainland.
