The Balearic Island area is easy for sailors to navigate. Navigator tables of the area hold no major challenges. There are no strong currents, the tidal range is just 10 cm, and the influence of tides is minimal. Changes in water level occur with certain wind directions and the water level rises by one meter on the east coast of Majorca due to the south wind (Scirocco) and the east wind (Levante). The sailing area is suitable for beginners and less experienced sailors. In the waters around the Balearic islands, the winds are mostly moderate and blow at around 3-4 Bft. In Mallorca and Menorca the wind comes predominantly from the north. In Mahon, the wind blows from the north 245 days a year. In Ibiza, Formentera and the other islands the wind comes more from the south and the east and wind speeds are generally lower. In general, the risk of strong winds occurring is highest between October and April. In spring and autumn, the Scirocco from the south or the Mistral are tempered by the Gulf of Lion and bring heavy seas.
