Lake Constance Yacht Charter - Special License Required

On Lake Constance a special captain's license is required. Either the "Bodenseeschifferpatent" or the "FerienPatent".

The "Bodenseeschifferpatent" is a license, which certainly will have few tourists.

Sport boat licenses from Germany, Austria and Switzerland are easily recognized by the district office as follows and granted as a holiday patent:

• ▶ It must be requested a temporary captain's license, the so-called "FereinPatent".
• ▶ For this purpose, this form must be downloaded from the district and filled out. This must be sent in with a copy of the existing boating license. The fee is around 25€ The district office then issues a temporary certificate for Lake Constance - the "FerienPatent" patent valid for a maximum of 4 weeks per year.

 

The following German, Austrian and Switzerland qualifications will be recognized and the temporary "FerienPatent" will be granted:

• Sportbootführerschein Binnen Segel (Germany)
• Sportbootführerschein Binnen Motor  (Germany) 
• Sportbootführerschein Segel und Motor  (Germany) 
• Sportbootführerschein Seeschifffahrtsstraßen  (Germany) 
• Sportküstenschifferschein (Germany)
• Schiffsführerausweis (Switzerland)
• Befähigungsausweis (FB2 or higher) (Austria)
• Yachtmaster (UK)
