You can then sail east along the coast of the island before heading north up to Santiago de Cuba for a visit to the former capital of Cuba, or continue east to Haiti or the Dominican Republic.

CUBA - Sailing Conditions and Clima
Cuba’s location primarily south of the Tropic of Cancer gives the country a tropical climate. The average temperature for the month of July is a comfortable 80.6ºF (27ºC) and for January is a mild 69.8ºF (21ºC). This makes Cuba an ideal sailing destination throughout the year. The climate is due in part to the consistently warm Caribbean waters that bring warm water north from the Equator.
Cuba enjoys northeasterly trade winds throughout the year, which not only help keep the island warm, but also will keep your sails working. For those looking to charter a sailing yacht and use only wind power, Cuba is a lovely, consistently windy place perfectly suited for a sailboat cruisers.
Because the island is warm throughout the year, it is probably best to visit between the months of November and April. The island enjoys a drier season in the winter and spring months, which means calmer waters for you to sail on and more hours of sunshine for you to enjoy. The rainy season begins in May, but possibly the worst time to charter a yacht in Cuba is when the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea combine, and can make hurricanes form. The peak of hurricane season is September and October, so it is best to avoid the area during those months.
